Brilliant win by Tugulduur as Tang Xin grabs yellow

Yellow jersey Tugulduur Tuulkhangai scored a tactically brilliant stage win today on Mount Zixi in Chuxiong. Whereas the Mongolian team captain always lost his jersey and the overall victory of our race in the previous years, he now outgunned four of his compatriots in the sprint as they failed to drop him on the 14km long climb. China's Tang Xin won the women's race and is the new leader.

It was a very quiet opening of the stage today in Chuxiong, the riders really enjoying the nice weather in what has traditionally been a foggy and even slightly wet stage. The bonus sprint still on the flat after 6,5 km was contested between Chinese riders and Teghsee - second in the overall - but the Mongolian was fourth only and did not score any bonus seconds. It then took until halfway up Mt Zixi for the first real attack by China's Pu Jinxue. Teghsee countered and when he noticed they had a small gap, he decided to go solo and try to get the yellow jersey away from Tuulkhangai. Teghsee needed 30 seconds and for a while that looked possible. Even Miga was unable to bridge the gap in a counter move. It was therefore quite extraordinary that Teghsee parked himself with only over 1,5k to go. Suddenly the juice was gone and four riders came back to him: Tugu, Miga, Jamba and Iderbold. The five then proceeded to the finish and Tugu did not let the stage victory slip away from him. Teghsee had recovered just enough to still get second place. Jamba was next ahead of iderbold and Miga, who at present has not yet shown the strength he had last year. Maybe he is biding his time.

Ma Ruhui started the stage in the women's yellow jersey, but her climbing ability was no match for her teammate Tang Xin. The latter grabbed her second win of this year's event, ahead of Marg Fedyna, who remains in contention for the GC.
